There are several different ways that one is able to use outside solar lighting in a garden. The only thing which will actually limit how you use them is your own imagination. Below we offer just a few ideas of ways in which outside solar lighting can be used for enhancing the look of a garden.

Idea 1 – Use solar spotlights or decorative solar lighting spread around the garden as a way of highlighting or providing focus to a specific area or feature in the garden. Look at using these for highlighting a particular tree, plant or garden feature (water or statute) in order to show them at their best. Giving a contrasting dark background by lighting the object up will make it stand out even more.

Idea 2 – If you want to great a shadow effect in your garden then you should situate your outside solar lighting very low down (as near to ground level as you possibly can). Also place in a location below the object that it is you are wishing to enhance. Again you have the choice of using either solar spot or floodlights as a way of enhancing a particular feature in your garden. But the lights will need to be mounted on either a small post or stick and so this will then make the installation process for you much easier.

Idea 3 – Another idea is to mount the solar lighting as high up as you possibly can and then aim it down to shine directly on to the object or tree. By doing this when it lights up a tree it will then cause a dappled effect and make the area feel much softer especially good for soften angular lines within a garden.

Idea 4 – Instead of having the lights directed on to the object from above why not place them in a position where the decorative solar lighting will shine directly upwards. This will then provide you with a way of providing focus on to a particular plant which would normally be hidden by the dark because of its height.

One of the big advantages to having outdoor solar lighting is that you are not restricted as to where you should place it as the ideas we have provided above show. Because there are no wires you can in fact position the lights just about anywhere you want within the garden. What you do need to make sure however is that the panels on top which collect the light from the sun and which get stored in the batteries do get enough light on them each day for this to occur.

After you have chosen the position where the outside solar lighting is going to be placed and you have installed it should you then leave them for about a week (5 to 7 days) before you turn them on. By doing this you are actually allowing the batteries inside to become fully charged.

If you are looking for durable and beautiful flooring for your home, it is hard to go wrong with tile. Tile flooring has become available in many different forms, sizes, shapes, and colors, each of which can give you a variety of possibilities for patterns and looks, from casual and rustic to inimitable elegance.

From hallways to kitchens, tile flooring.combined with the right lighting, adds just the right touch of style to your home and because it is so durable, it will certainly last for many years to come. Of course, installing tile in your home is a commitment – tile flooring requires adhesive, and so removing it can be tough. Before you go full steam ahead into your tile project, do you homework so you end up with the floor of your dreams.

The Right Hardness

For your tile floors to last as long as you want them to, it is important to consider the hardness of the tile and select the appropriate hardness for the room in which you will be using the tile. The hardness scale for tile is set by the Porcelain Enamel Institute, and you should look for tile that bears the stamp of this organization. The rating system for tile hardness is on a scale of zero to five, and the hardness rating is equivalent to the amount of traffic the tile can handle.

A zero rating for tile means that it is not suitable for floor use – zero tiles should only be used for walls. Tile with a rating of five on the other hand is strong enough to stand up to commercial use and is the kind of tile flooring used in stores and restaurants.

Moisture Protection

Just as the strength of the tile you select dictates where you should use it, you must also consider the ability of the tile to stand up to moisture. Often, tile is used in bathrooms and kitchens, which have high levels of moisture. For tile that is destined for these rooms, look for nonporous tile types. If you do not use nonporous tile, moisture can cause the tile to crack or mold will able to grow behind the tile, which could cause respiratory problems for your family (not to mention being more than a little stinky). For added protection, use a sealant on tiles in moisture rich rooms.

When choosing discount tile flooring, remember to also consider how slippery the tile will be when wet. You can get tiles that have been treated with non slip sealants, so consider these for bathrooms, entryways, and other places where water on the floor can be an issue.

While the wiring through junction box will tax past the limit your electrical skills, the track lighting kits that you can simply plug in the wall are available. For an ease of installation they cannot be beaten but they might not look as much unobtrusive and professional as the ones that are mounted through the ceiling actually.

It is a little more challenging when you are ready for the installation. For mount track lighting as well as giving the piece de resistance to the juniors, the attention that it deserves you may follow these easy steps.

Materials Needed

Tape and Electrical cable

screwdriver/ cordless drill

Stepstool or Ladder

Voltage meter / Neon tester

Electrician’s pliers or Long-nose

Tape measure

Toggle bolts

Wire nuts

Track light kit

1. Turn off the power.

Through the service panel or breaker box turn off the electrical power to the exact junction box. By the voltage meter or a neon tester make sure that the circuit is completely dead. When you are sure that the power is dead then take out the existing fixture and also disconnect the wires carefully, keeping the exposed ends separated from one another.

2. Wire the live end.

Into the track put the live end and by tightening the setscrew secure it. To the mounting bracket fix the live end.

3. Lay out the track location.

On the basis of the location of the existing junction box and the areas where you want the lights to bring focus decide the track location. For the angles or Ts you may buy the fittings but make sure that the fittings that you need are given by your selected track light system manufacturer.

4. Mount the track. In the junction box place the circuit and the fixture wires and on the box install the mounting plate. By following the instructions given for your particular track lighting system snap the track in place on the junction box.

Through the new track mounting put the screws/toggle belts and to the ceiling lift the track. (If the track is unwieldy or very heavy then beforehand recruit helpers.) Insert the toggle wings in the mounting holes but without tightening it. Fix any fittings angles or Ts as well as extra desired track sections and at the end of the completion of the track insert the end pieces.

In the track insert the electrical adapter and twist it for attaching. Over the adapter and the mounting plate assembly install the cover. Into the track place the fixtures and to secure twist it.

For the house wiring make connections. Onto the matching colored house twist the wire connectors and pigtail wires for jointly locking them. With the screws given secure mounting plate on the ceiling box.

Put the finishing touches and turn on the power back and also test.

by Febbe Wallace

Most of us now recognize both the need and charm of residential outdoor lighting. Attempting to light the outdoors portion of your home however is different from indoor or commercial lighting. Here are some things that you need to remember if you decide to install outdoor lighting for your home.

Make a Plan

There are two ways for you to plan for installing residential outdoor lighting. Some recommend that you finish everything first before planning for lights while others say that you should plan the placement of your outdoor lights even before your outdoor structures and landscapes are completed. Either way would work and your plans will depend on your preference.

If you go for planning after the work is done, make sure you take the time to assess and evaluate your property properly to find out which areas need lighting. Look for pathways, potentially dark areas, steps, ledges and objects that may have to be lighted to prevent accidents. You could also try to locate items that you would like to be highlighted for decorative purposes.

Keep Changes to a Minimum

If you have just finished some outdoor structures or landscaping, then you would definitely not want to destroy or redo something just because of your residential outdoor lighting. Aside from planning, you should also carefully plot your property and potential residential outdoor lighting locations before you begin on your lighting project.

Use Variety

You do not need to stick to just one style of residential outdoor lighting. Don’t just settle for buying just one set of lamps or one set of embedded lights. Try to consider the idea of using a variety of residential outdoor lighting fixtures and items. Paths and driveways for example can be illuminated by lamp posts while landscapes, shrubs and focal objects can be illuminated by spotlights, backlights or uplights. Wall mounted lights, tiki torches, lanterns and table lamps are also possible options for residential outdoor lighting.

Ask an Expert

Consider asking the help of an expert if you’re not familiar with installing the lighting yourself. Be careful though because some individuals who claim that they know about residential outdoor lighting simply read off catalogs and learn through hit or miss. Get an installer who has a good reputation and who has been installing residential outdoor lighting for a living for some time already.

Check Building Codes

Before you even connect a single wire, make sure that you have checked installation and building codes. This is not just a matter of complying with a set of rules. This is a matter of keeping your family and neighbors safe from faulty wiring or installation.

Practice Electrical Safety

Your residential outdoor lighting should be deemed safe for use at all times. Although product qualities are often quality controlled, you should do your part in ensuring safety. You should for example consider having separate external electrical split receptacles instead of using extension cords. You can also choose to install ground fault circuit interrupters near pools or wet areas. Both precautions can help prevent electrocution.

The 19th Century Lighting Co. is a good source for buying a Victorian lamp and, it is the largest stocking dealer of restored Victorian patterned art-glass lamps and lightings in America. Since 1972, this company has been selling Victorian lamps in “restored” as well as “as found” condition and, in the more than thirty years that it has been doing business, they have been able to supply a variety that most others cannot. In addition, this company also has the largest inventory of restored Victorian patterned art-glass in America and, is sellers to museums, antique dealers as well as collectors as also lighting enthusiasts throughout the world.

Maintains Original And Pristine Appearance

The Victorian lamps one may want to buy are usually in restored condition and, that helps to maintain its original pristine appearance. It is indeed very difficult to find authentic, original as well as complete Victorian lamps and, is supposed to be ten to twenty times rarer to find than other antique lamps. The Victorian lamp should be in good condition so that things such as its retracting mechanism will still work the way that they did, when they were in new condition.

One would indeed be privileged to acquire a Victorian lamp and, would need to source it from places such as the 19th Century Lighting Co. to purchase an authentic piece. One may be able to choose from different Victorian parlor lamps that are not electrified but, still in oil though; for modern usage one can passively electrify these lamps by using specific wiring and, yet not harm the existing and original equipment, in any way. One can thus get the pleasure of the old world with the convenience of modern means.

Some of the very rare Victorian banquet lamps include original consolidated high grade trim set stands as well as patterned art-glass ball shade stencil transfer and, hand decoration of castle scenes. Such Victorian lamps retain their originality and, after having been restored, is the finished article that contains all the original as well as authentic metal parts, even down to the original connecting bolt.

As one can well imagine, these Victorian lamps used oil and, were not electrified and, for a few thousand dollars are well worth the price, especially if one buys them from reputed companies such as the 19th Century Lighting Co. In addition, one may go online and view the various different pieces and choose a Victorian lamp of one’s choice and, they are also able to provide complete lighting restoration services, should one need to get an old Victorian lamp restored or repaired. They can also custom paint new globes that can replace old or broken globes and, they also passively electrify old Victorian lamps, without harming the original parts.
