How to Get Rid of a Home Decor Gift

Home Decor No Comments »

Well, if the bright pink vase with orange flowers has been lying around in your basement since Aunt Edna got it for you two (may be three) years ago, its time to get rid of it. You’ve heard of how one mans trash can be another’s treasure, so spread the love around by being creative with your home décor gift.

Re-gift

Home décor gifts are some of the easiest items to re-gift because they are not usually as tied to fluctuating fashion trends as say clothes or even toys (Not even a three year old wants last year’s Elmo!) That said; you still have to be tactful in re-gifting because home décor is still something personal and your bright orange vase may be an eye sore in someone’s home that is based on soft neutrals and earth tones.

Do not re-gift a home décor gift or any other gift for that matter to someone very close to you as they could ask you where you got it and say they want to exchange it. Do not give it to someone you like or want to impress, because your gift reflects on you – and of course do not make the absolute faux pas of re-gifting the piece to the person who gave it to you in the first place!

You can give that home décor gift to someone you don’t know very well or someone you won’t be meeting very often or very soon. It sounds tacky, but hey, you never know they just might like it!

Re-Use

You may not imagine eating on a plate with chickens and roosters and wish this home décor gift came with a gift receipt. Instead of just chucking it away, re-use the plates as wall art for your sun room or as serving plates- for what else – chicken and eggs!

Donate

Donate your home décor work of art to a thrift store or other worthy cause and get a tax deduction! Someone may not like it at full price but may think it will make a fun conversation piece for a buck or two.

Ebay

The whole world browses through online auction sites like eBay so something that may not be the coolest thing in your home décor vocabulary, may be wow for someone across the globe. Keep the price low so that you don’t pay much for listing it. Even if it doesn’t sell, it was worth a shot since it was just lying around in the basement anyway!

Change the Look of Your Home with Some New Home Décor Furniture

What is a home without furniture? You know when it is time to get some new home décor furniture when your kitchen chairs become creaky and your couch becomes threadbare. Luckily, there are a few ideas you can implement in your search for new home décor furniture.

New Home Décor Furniture for the Kitchen

No one enjoys eating on an unsteady table and rickety chairs. Luckily, there are many options to choose from when you are looking for a new kitchen set. For a fancier look, get a table with a glass top and pair it with minimally cushioned kitchen chairs. For a more country look, get a nice oak table and pair it with oak chairs that have nice soft cushioning.

Some kitchens have an island in the middle of them. These islands can be used as extra cooking space, but they can also serve as additional seating when you have guests over. Be sure to include some stools for the island as part of the new home décor furniture for the kitchen. Just be sure that they have backs!

New Home Décor Furniture for the Family Room

When it comes to getting new home décor furniture for the family room, getting a couch is a must. There are several types of couches you can choose from, including ones that have recliners. The length and type of couch you choose depends on the size of your family, and how much you entertain. However, be sure that the couch is comfortable, but not too soft, as that doesn’t provide adequate back support.

A couch is not the only type of home décor furniture that you can add to the family room. Be sure that you have a nice coffee table. For ambience, get two lamps and place them at alternate sides of the room on some nice lamp stands. Also, be sure you have at least one armchair, and be sure that the armchair either has a comfortable footstool or reclines.

New Home Décor Furniture for the Bathroom

You may not think so, but it is just as important to decorate the bathroom as any other part of the house. The bathroom does not have to be confined to just the basic toilet, sink, and shower or bathtub. For example, if you like to read while in the bathtub, why no put a small bookshelf or magazine rack in there? If you have a larger bathroom, add pieces of furniture to your bathroom that are both functional and look nice.

Get Ideas

To get more new home décor furniture ideas, visit a local furniture store. It is easier to do that than to shop on the internet, because seeing the furniture in person before purchasing it allows you to test it for comfort and to picture how it would fit in your home. Thus, with the proper planning you are sure to have a home full of comfortable new home décor furniture.

The Shadow Box is a Handmade Home Décor Furnishing Gem

Home Decor No Comments »

Have you ever wanted to take a room in your home or office and truly make it your own, but don’t know where to start? There is an easy and inexpensive way to add a beautiful personal touch to your home décor furnishing.

You can customize any area of your home or office with a handcrafted Shadow Box, customized to the style of your room. There are so many wonderful possibilities that an aspiring entrepreneur could bring in some extra money displaying their talents in these home décor furnishing accents.

Pick your Size

A quick trip to the home décor furnishing section of you local craft and hobby shop will introduce you to the empty shadow box. If you are not familiar with this craft item, you’ll be amazed by the myriad of sizes. While the selection can even be overwhelming, focus on the right shadow box to meet your needs. Smaller boxes usually work best in bathrooms, or on the desk in your office. Keep scale in mind as you are shopping and buy a bigger size for bigger spaces.

Find your Style

If you are a golfer or you know a golfer who would appreciate a unique piece of home décor furnishing, this is a great theme for a shadow box. By using old driver covers, a piece of indoor-outdoor green carpet, some sand and a ball you can create a wonderful accent for the living room or office.

Add something special to your kitchen with some dried or silk flowers and fruits to add a bountiful harvest feel around your table. Smaller versions of the same theme will make attractive accents for your powder room.

Animal lovers will enjoy pet-themed shadow boxes as a great piece of home décor furnishing. Dog bones and paw prints, or an arrangement of some of your cat’s favorite toys are a whimsical way to let people know you cherish the four legged members of your family.

You can create a Hawaiian bedroom theme with some sand, a lei and a miniature palm tree. You can even pay homage to your favorite sports teams with miniature footballs, basketballs or miniature baseball bats found at your local craft store.

Small shadow boxes can customize accents like welcome signs. A simple script on “antique parchment” with a woven heart will make your guests feel at home when they enter.

If you are itching for a new project to tackle, take a trip to your favorite craft store and check out the home furnishing and décor department. With a few supplies and your imagination, you can create hand-crafted gifts or start your own small business venture.
